Soap can be made in very different ways. Here at Tierra De Cabros, we use the cold process method. Soap is made by adding fats and or oils to a mixture of lye and water or milk. The combination of these products is known as sopanification. Hand made soap is quite different then commercially made soap. Commercial soap is manufactured in a continuous manner; the ingredients are added at one end while the soap is removed from the other end where the naturally occurring glycerin is sometimes removed. Hand made soap is made in a similar manner, but the hand made soap retains its naturally occurring glycerin, which serves as a skin emollient. Our soap offers you a small creamy lather no huge bubbles here but a nice creamy, long lasting bar with a very nice after feel. The soaps we produce contain some or all of these ingredients: Goat Milk is known to be a natural cleanser; it is very mild to the skin. We only use fresh pasteurized goat milk. Goat milk is very high in protein, vitamins and minerals. It adds a nice creamy texture to the finished product.
Kefir made with Goat Milk is a type of cultured milk rich in protein, minerals, lipids amino acids, and vitamins thus creating a lovely, creamy, very nice feeling bar of soap.
Olive Oil is the oil we use in our soaps. This oil is moisturizing and mild to skin. It produces a hard bar of soap with light lathering ability.
Tallow: We render only suet for the tallow used in our soaps. Tallow has been used for centuries in the soap making process, it produces a very hard bar of soap that is mild to the skin but only produces a small creamy lather. Tallow contributes to the hardness and life of the soap.
Cocoa Butter with its chocolate aroma improves the finished product by lending a creamy lather and hardness. It is also used for its skin conditioning properties.
Castor Oil is used for its mildness and moisture retaining properties.
Sweet Almond Oil is very rich in protein and skin softening abilities.
Palm Kernel Oil produces great lather adds hardness to the final product and is moisturizing if used in limited quantities.
Shea Butter is a fatty extract from the seed of the Shea Tree, shea is another great butter to use in skin care. Shea Butter is very gentle, it softens, nourishes and helps retain moisture.
Sodium Hydroxide also known as lye. Handmade soap cannot be made without this ingredient - not to worry once the oils, fats and butters have combined with the lye we are left with soap this chemical process is known as sopanification.
Rice Bran Oil Is a very good source of Vitamin E and is very moisturizing for the skin.
Fragrance Oils are used in some of our soaps, we only used soap safe fragrances in our products.
Additives Some of
our soaps contain oat flour, oat bran and fruit seeds of
different varieties, dead sea mud these additives are used
for different reasons - some are just a bit abrasive or
exfoliating others lend to the conditioning properties of
our soap. Colorants if any
coloring are used for a batch of soap it is noted on the soap
label and the ingredients are approved for soap making. Rosemary
Extract This is used as a antioxidant it helps protect the
oils from oxidation. Tetrasodium EDTA
is used to help with soap scum. Care of your soap: I would
recommend using a soap dish, so the soap can drain, air hardens
the soap, allowing it to last longer. Our soaps are made
with as natural as possible ingredients. Please keep in mind that
some of the oils may be irritating to the skin. Try the soap on a
small spot of skin so you can be sure that there are no reactions
to your skin. At the
present time we offer around 15-20 varieties of soap. The soaps
we offer are listed in categories and contain a brief description
of each variety. |
